Taqueria Food!. I'm always on the lookout for good taquerias...I dig good, honest cooking done fresh daily. I must have driven by Las Tarascas dozens of times, and I recently had the opportunity to stop...and am I glad I did. As you walk in the smallish grocery store, the taqueria is easy to spot. All the dishes available that day are displayed, which makes decision making easy. You go to the cashier and pay first, then you take the smaller slip to the taqueria. Just point to what you want. This day, I chose the pupusa and gordita plattilo. There are always options, you will be asked what you want, more than likely in Spanish. Don't worry though, help is nearby for those who do not habla. I chose to have my pupusa topped with lengua, which I found tender and tasty. The gordita was filled with mushrooms and cheese, which was yummy beyond compare. I also had a tamale, which is as good a tamale as I've ever had. This is not tex-mex...this is authentic Mexican cooking, prepared by folks who have been cooking these dishes a long time. If you find yourself craving real Mexican cooking, a stop at Las Tarascas should be on your agenda.

This store is the Meat Market I talked about in my last review. Its a small store but inside one can buy fresh products, meat processed in-house. The beef,chicken and pork are all displayed behind clear unfogged glass. There is seasoned pork/bell pepper and spices, seasoned lemon pepper chicken, strip cut chicken quarters, butterfly thin huge chicken breast. What else can be said about this place! The fruit and vegetables are fresh and seemingly organic; I think, especially the carrots. I pick the most huge and deformed ones. I take them and grate them in a spaghetti curly cutter and pickle them. Delicious!
